Fly Yoga for beginners: 7 things I wish I knew
The hammock looks scary until it becomes the most comfortable place in the room. Seven tips for your first months of aerial practice.
Fly Yoga is the fastest way I know to make inversions feel friendly. But the first classes can be confusing. Here is what I tell every new student.
1. Height matters more than you think
The hammock should sit around hip height. Too low and you cannot invert; too high and you will fight for every entry.
2. Fabric burns are normal
Wear long sleeves and leggings for the first weeks. The skin gets used to the fabric quickly.
3. Eat light
A full stomach and inversions are not friends. Two hours without a heavy meal is ideal.
4. Trust comes before tricks
We spend the first lesson just sitting, swinging and leaning back. It is not wasted time — it is the foundation.
5. Your shoulders will grow
Aerial work builds pulling strength like nothing else. Expect sore lats the first week.
6. Dizziness passes
Come up slowly, breathe, and give your body a few sessions to adapt.
7. Mount it professionally
This one is not a tip, it is a rule. Use a certified ceiling mount installed by a professional.
The Fly Yoga Basics video walks you through all of this step by step.
