Why active yoga? Strength that flows
Yoga does not have to be slow to be deep, and fitness does not have to be mindless to be hard. Here is how I combine the two.
People often ask me whether my classes are yoga or fitness. My honest answer: both, on purpose.
Where the idea comes from
In the Active Yoga community I grew up in, a class could start with breathing, move into a strong vinyasa, include a functional circuit and end in a long savasana. Nobody found this strange. The body does not care what the method is called — it cares whether the work is smart.
What you get from combining them
- Strength in ranges you actually use: deep squats, long lunges, overhead reach.
- Mobility that sticks, because you control it with muscle instead of hanging in it.
- A calm head: the breath gives the hard parts a rhythm.
How a class feels
We warm up the joints, build heat with flowing sequences, spend a few minutes on a skill (a balance, an inversion, a strength drill) and then slow everything down. You leave sweaty and quiet at the same time — that is the feeling I want for you.
Come and try the free Sunday class. If it makes you smile, you are in the right place.
