Your core is not your six-pack
The deep core is a team of muscles that support every move you make. Here is how to find it.
When people say core, they usually point at the abs. In Pilates, the core is a cylinder: the diaphragm on top, the pelvic floor below, the deep transverse abdominis around and the multifidus along the spine.
How to feel it
Lie on your back, knees bent. Exhale slowly through the mouth as if fogging a mirror, and feel the lower belly draw gently in. That is the start.
Why it matters
A strong deep core protects the spine, improves balance and makes every other exercise more effective.
